Common causes of heel pain include:

  1. Plantar Fasciitis – Inflammation of the plantar fascia, often due to overuse, poor footwear, or foot mechanics.
  2. Achilles Tendinitis – Inflammation of the Achilles tendon at the back of the heel, often from repetitive strain.
  3. Heel Spurs – Calcium deposits that form a bony protrusion on the underside of the heel bone.
  4. Bursitis – Inflammation of the fluid-filled sacs (bursae) that cushion the heel.
  5. Stress Fractures – Small cracks in the heel bone from repetitive stress or high-impact activities.

Heel pain is a common foot complaint, often caused by plantar fasciitis, an inflammation of the thick band of tissue (the plantar fascia) that runs across the bottom of the foot and connects the heel bone to the toes. This condition typically causes sharp, stabbing pain near the heel, especially with the first steps in the morning or after long periods of rest. It can result from overuse, poor footwear, obesity, or structural foot issues. Treatment usually includes rest, stretching exercises, proper footwear, and in some cases, physical therapy or orthotics.
